Cancer Screening for Wellness (Miyooayaan)
The "Cancer Screening for Wellness (Miyooayaan): Métis Guide for Breast, Cervical, and Colorectal Cancer Screening" project involved the development of a culturally tailored, 68-page comprehensive guide designed to improve access to breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screening for Métis Albertans. Developed by the Otipemisiwak Métis Government's Health Department in response to community feedback from the 2022 Cancer Screening Survey and 2024 surveys, the guide provides clear information on screening guidelines, appointment expectations, and prevention resources. The final product features a user-friendly, landscape-oriented design with coiled binding and interactive rip-out pages, enriched with floral imagery and personal quotes from Métis community members. To maximize impact, the guide is promoted via social media and the MNA newsletter, with 500 physical copies distributed at key Métis community events like the 2025 Annual Citizens' Gathering and Cancer Health Forum to ensure this essential health resource reaches Métis citizens across the province.
